I hate paywalls: But….

This is from the times:

Written by Tony Evans, who unfortunately regularly appears on talksport so thus loses just a little but of credibility, but i was also annoyed at the drip feeding of news and the bullshit times pay wall to so here it is.

The Chinese Government is the mystery backer behind a bid for Liverpool Football Club, The Times can reveal.

China’s overseas investment arm China Investment Corporation (CIC), which already owns a stake in Canary Wharf, is funding the bid fronted by the sports tycoon Kenny Huang for one of Britain’s biggest sporting names.

The debt-laden club is expected to change hands this month and last night the Chinese appeared to be in pole position to win a three-way takeover battle. The other bidders are a wealthy Kuwaiti family and an American private equity group.

Liverpool’s lender, the Royal Bank of Scotland, forced the club’s unpopular American owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, to put it up for sale in April. A number of potential foreign buyers have been circling, but until now the role of the Communist Government was unknown.

The acquisition would be just a tiny piece of China’s vast global investment plan. CIC was created in 2007 to invest billions of dollars for the benefit of the State. The country has been able to stockpile nearly $2 trillion of foreign currency reserves because it exports many more billions of pounds of goods and services than it imports. CIC has $332 billion to spend abroad.

The fund already has stakes in natural resources and energy companies in Asia, the US and Africa as part of China’s long-term strategy of securing its energy supplies. Liverpool would be its first football club and a high-profile entry into British cultural life.

Neither CIC nor Mr Huang was available for comment last night, but insiders said that CIC would end up owning the majority of the club if the consortium’s planned bid — which values Liverpool at between £300 million and £350 million — is successful.

China is not the first foreign country to covet English Premier League teams. Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Sunderland are all in foreign hands.

Manchester City, which is owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, a senior member of the Royal Family in Abu Dhabi, and Chelsea, owned by the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, were bought as trophy assets. The owners have poured in money without seeking a profit.

It is believed that the Chinese would expect to make money by building a bigger stadium in Merseyside and developing the club’s Asian fan base.

Futurecop!

Blippity blippity blop here’s a bit of futurecop!

if Alan Braxe was around in 1983, I Imagine thats what this would sound like, taking influences from some of the most obscure and bizzarre sounding Tv Shows and films they somehow manage to blend all this into some quality synth based discoey tunes, coming in at around 110 – 120bm, bit of a bitch to mix in, and a bitch to find anything remotely that fits with it. I had a nice bootleg going on with an Empire of the Sun acapela the the other week, but I decided that most people are sick of empire of the sun, so i left it in my head.

Not much info about regarding Futurecop! (the exclamation mark is part of the brand, not me being a twat) We know they are from London, we know they played in Manchester recently in a bar, for the princely sum of a fiver. They are 27 in age (i’m not sure if they are one or two, if thats a combined age or what)

Anyway get it in your ears

Coming out on Deep Distraction way back in 1994, around the time that everyone seem to be remixing and throwing in samples of guitar tunes in house tunes, stuff like Tinman – 18 Strings, and that other one that sampled Lenny Kravitz,

Well around that era, I discovered a tune by Floorjam, a little funky guitar house tune. It’s well due a remix I reckon, but hey what do i know. I bought it from some shitty little record shop in Rhyl which i forget the name of, It was near the Cinema and was only good for buying the occasional tune, a mix tape, and tickets for cream.

Anyway, Floorjam Stoneage, on Deep Distraction

Hello, me again, you’ll notice this from time to time, I set up things (like a blog) and I get bored of them pretty quickly, i’m that sort of person. Do something for 10 minutes, get bored, do something else.

Well I remembered another mix I did, about a year ago. I did it at home, for me, on my CDJs. Just to prove a point to myself really, as at the time the wife was 2 months away from giving birth and I was quite concerned , with her going on maternity leave weather we would be able to afford to live in the style we had become accustomed to. So I thought, if we’re struggling, I always have DJing, I still have some good contacts in the business I suppose I could go back and do a couple of gigs a week for pocket money (gadgets).

So I dusted of the CDJs, got Traktor out (my how that’s changed in a few years) and set about trying some stuff out again. Anyway, people seem to like it that have heard it. It’s quite housey with some random tunes and acapellas thrown over things like the old days

Here’s the tracklisting, don’t let it put you off.

1. Groove Armada – Lightsonic
2. Together in Electric Dreams – Georgio Moroder and Phil Oakley
3. The Black Kids – I’m not going to teach you (twelves remix)
4. MGMT Kids – (hacks mix)
5. Daft Punk – One more time (acapella)
6. Alan Braxe – Intro (acapella)
7. Kirs Kross – Jump (planet cross mix)
8 . CJ Bolland – Sugar is Sweeter (acapella)
9. Neds atomic Dustbin – Intact
10. Metallica – Enter Sandman
11. LCD Soundsystem – Get Innocous (soulwax mix)
12. Soulwax – NY Excuse
13. Grace – Not over yet
14. The Hours – See the light (calvin harris mix)
15. Grovesnor – Drive your car
16. A fifth of Beethoven (re-edit)

The System

I was thinking about tryng to guess the results of football matches using a system, this is not inspired by Derren Browns Lottery Shite, this is inspired by 8 pints of Becks Vier.

What I decided was I would take the top 4 teams the top tiers of

England

Spain

Italy

Germany

France

Holland

Scotland

Portugal

I have also thrown in the Championship for good measure, I would have thrown in some more 2nd tiers but I couldn’t be arsed hunting anywhere past the BBC website for league tables.

This will give me 36 teams.

1 Chelsea 6 3 0 0 8 1 3 0 0 7 2 12 18
2 Man Utd 6 3 0 0 7 4 2 0 1 8 2 9 15
3 Liverpool 6 2 0 1 9 3 2 0 1 7 6 7 12
4 Man City 5 2 0 0 5 2 2 0 1 6 4 5 12
1 West Brom 8 3 1 0 9 3 3 1 0 11 4 13 20
2 Newcastle 8 4 0 0 8 1 2 1 1 5 3 9 19

3 Middlesbrough 8 2 1 1 5 6 3 0 1 9 3 5 16
4 Preston 8 3 1 0 9 4 1 2 1 6 5 6 1
1 Celtic 5 2 1 0 8 4 2 0 0 4 1 7 13
2 Rangers 5 2 0 0 8 2 1 2 0 2 1 7 11

3 Hibernian 5 2 0 1 5 2 1 0 1 3 3 3 9
4 Motherwell 5 1 1 0 3 1 1 2 0 3 2 3 9
1 Hamburg 6 3 0 0 10 3 1 2 0 6 4 9 14
2 Bayer Leverkusen 6 2 1 0 3 1 2 1 0 10 4 8 14
3 Bayern Munich 6 2 1 0 6 2 1 1 1 7 4 7 11
4 TSG Hoffenheim 6 1 2 0 4 1 2 0 1 5 3 5 11
1 PSV 7 3 1 0 13 7 2 1 0 6 2 10 17
2 FC Twente 7 2 1 0 6 4 3 1 0 6 1 7 17
3 Ajax 7 2 1 0 10 1 3 0 1 12 4 17 16
4 Feyenoord 7 2 1 1 8 4 2 1 0 4 2 6 14
1 Inter Milan 5 2 1 0 6 2 2 0 0 6 1 9 13
2 Juventus 5 2 0 0 3 0 2 1 0 7 3 7 13
3 Sampdoria 5 2 0 0 7 2 2 0 1 3 3 5 12
4 Genoa 5 2 1 0 9 5 1 0 1 2 3 3 10
1 Braga 6 3 0 0 5 1 3 0 0 5 2 7 18
2 Benfica 5 1 1 0 9 2 3 0 0 7 1 13 13
3 FC Porto 5 2 0 0 7 1 1 1 1 4 3 7 10
4 Sporting 5 2 0 1 5 4 1 1 0 3 1 3 10
1 Barcelona 4 2 0 0 8 2 2 0 0 6 1 11 12
2 Real Madrid 4 2 0 0 8 2 2 0 0 5 0 11 12
3 Sevilla 4 2 0 0 6 1 1 0 1 2 2 5 9
4 Athletic Bilbao 4 2 0 0 4 2 1 0 1 1 1 2 9
1 Bordeaux 6 3 0 0 9 1 2 1 0 5 2 11 16
2 Lyon 6 3 0 0 5 1 1 2 0 6 3 7 14
3 Marseille 6 2 1 0 5 2 2 1 0 5 2 6 14
4 Rennes 6 2 1 0 5 1 1 2 0 7 3 8 12

Now we have these 36 teams, we slim these down by only picking teams that are playing at home this weekend.

Which Leaves me with

Liverpool
Man City
West Brom
Rangers
Motherwell (playing the 4th place team)
Hamburg (playing 3rd place team)
TSG Hoffenheim
FC Twente
PSV
Ajax
Juventus
Sampdoria
Benfica
Porto
Real Madrid
Athletico (Playing 3rd place)
Bordeaux (Playing 4th Place)
Lyon

I’m going to remove all the teams that are playing a team that is also in the top 4.

So now we have

Liverpool
Man City
West Brom
Rangers
TSG Hoffenheim
FC Twente
PSV
Ajax
Juventus
Sampdoria
Benfica
Porto
Real Madrid
Athletico
Lyon

15 Teams.

Now the final part of my system, is too only bet on  the teams that have won their last 2 games, so they have a bit of confidence.

Liverpool
West Brom
Ajax
Twente
PSV
Benfica
Real Madrid

This leaves me with a hitlist of 7 teams from 32.
So as a tester, i have put a quid accumulator on it.

and guest what.

It brings in just over 3 fucking quid.

Well that was a waste of an hour on a Saturday morning.

Back in 2002 I was asked by a friend of mine called Freejack to record a mix for his Saturday night /Sunday morning radio show called “The Acid Test” The brief was too make a 30 minute mix, and it wasn’t allowed to have any swearing in it.

At the time this was recorded I was living with a few friends in Preston, all of us were DJ’s, we had George Thompson, owner and resident of feel, Chris Hunter who was working for Shaboom records in Blackpool, and his partner in Crime Jim Damentalist, they also used to DJ together at the time, in the back room at Feel. Why am I telling you who the hell i was living with, well when you put that many DJ’s in a house together you don’t need a dining room. You need a 6 Deck 4 CDJ DJ room, all wired into an old skool mac. Making for many hours of mindless “jamming” and noise making as many people tried to DJ at the same time.

It was a haven for making mix tapes though, and one afternoon i set about composing 30 mins worth of tunes and acapellas and this is what It came out with, I can’t find a track listing for it. But it’s very housey, and its hosue tunes that were about in 2002 (obviously)

There’s some good acapella bits in it, but my god you can tell this was all done on vinyl…

Rangers FFS

Who would have thought my accumulator would have been over by 2.30pm on Saturday when Rangers failed to beat Kilmarnock. Where the fuck is Kilmarnock anyway, is it a real place? IT EVEN COMES UP IN THE SPELLCHECKER as mis-spelt.

For the record the other 10 teams all managed to win.

And now i’m down to 58p in my paddy power account.

I wasn’t planning on betting on the Carling Cup anyway, as there’s always a few shocks in that, as nobody really takes it seriously, apart from Everton, and possibly Spurs. I’d bet my house on Leeds beating Liverpool though, this is their cup final.

Weekly Stupid Accumulator

And this week I will be wasting my money betting on the following football teams to win.

All of them

Or I lose yet again.

Panathinaikos @ 1/3
Rangers @ 2/5
Standard Liege @ 4/6
Bayern Munich @ 1/6
Newcastle @ 2/5
Chelsea @ 1/2
Real Madrid @ 1/8
Barcelona @ 1/3
Inter Milan
Juventus @ 2/9
